- Letter โ US standard (8.5ร11"). Same layout as A4 with US margins.

When enabled, clicking the print button immediately opens the browser's print dialog without showing the preview first. Saves one click for high-volume kitchens.
3. Printing Orders
Print manually from anywhere in WooCommerce
๐จ๏ธ How to Print an Order
Two locations where print buttons appear
Method 1: Orders List Page
Go to WooCommerce โ Orders. Each order row has a small ๐จ๏ธ printer icon button in the Actions column. Click it to print that order instantly using your default template.
Method 2: Individual Order Page
Open any order. In the print meta box in the right sidebar, you'll find buttons for each document type: Order Receipt, Invoice, Packing Slip, and Delivery Label.
Method 3: Reprint from History
Go to Super Print Order โ Print History. Every past print has a Reprint button that prints the same order with the same template again.
What Happens When You Click Print
- A new browser tab/window opens with the formatted print layout
- If Auto Print is on โ the browser print dialog opens immediately
- If Auto Print is off โ you see a preview and can click the browser's print button
- The print is logged in Print History with timestamp and user info
4. Paper Size Templates
Each paper size has its own independent settings and layout
A4 Size
Professional full-page layout for standard office printers.
- 210mm ร 297mm paper
- Full order details with grid layout
- Logo with position control
- Billing & shipping address side by side
- Itemized products table with prices
Letter Size
US standard paper for North American businesses.
- 8.5" ร 11" paper
- Same features & layout as A4

- Used for all automatic cloud printing
๐ Choosing Between Paper Sizes
Which template is right for you?
Use POS if:
You have a thermal receipt printer (Star TSP, Epson TM, etc.) in your restaurant kitchen. This is the most common choice for food businesses. The compact format saves paper and prints fast.
Use A4 / Letter if:
You need printed documents with shipped orders, or professional invoices for accounting. A4 is European standard, Letter is US standard โ the content is identical, only the page dimensions differ.
5. Visual Template Editor
Navigate to Super Print Order โ Template Editor
๐จ Using the Template Editor
Full control over what appears on your printed documents
The Template Editor has a settings panel on the left and a live preview on the right. Every change you make updates the preview in real-time. At the top, select which paper size you want to edit: A4, Letter, or POS.
Show / Hide Fields
Each section and field has an on/off toggle. Turn off anything you don't want on the printout. Available toggles include:
- Logo โ your shop logo image
- Shop Info โ name, address, phone
- Business Info โ secondary business details
- Order Number & Date โ order reference info
- Customer Info โ name, email, phone
- Billing Address โ full billing details
- Shipping Address โ full shipping details
- Product Items โ item names, quantities, prices
- SKU Column โ product SKU in items table
- Order Totals โ subtotal, tax, fees, total
- Payment Method โ how the customer paid
- Order Notes โ customer-provided notes
- Custom Fields โ each custom field individually
- Footer โ bottom section with additional info
Drag & Drop Element Order
The sections listed in the editor panel can be dragged and dropped to rearrange their order on the printed document. Grab the handle (โก) next to any section and drag it to a new position.
Colors & Fonts
Customize the look of your printed documents:
- Primary Color โ used for headers, borders, and accents (color picker)
- Text Color โ main body text color
- Border Color โ lines and separators
- Header Font Size โ size of title and shop name
- Body Font Size โ size of regular content text
- Footer Font Size โ size of footer text
Logo Position & Size
- Position โ Left, Center, or Right alignment in the header
- Size โ Width in pixels from 50px to 300px (height adjusts proportionally)
Paper Margins
Set custom margins for each paper size. POS typically uses small margins (5โ10mm) to maximize receipt width. A4/Letter can use wider margins (15โ30mm) for professional look.
6. Invoice, Packing Slip & Label
Complete your order fulfillment workflow
๐ Additional Document Types
Available from the print meta box on each order
๐งพ Invoice
A professional invoice document with:
- Auto-generated invoice number based on the order number
- Payment status badge (Paid / Unpaid / Refunded)
- Itemized billing with quantities, unit prices, and line totals
- Tax breakdown and grand total
- Your shop details and customer billing address
๐ฆ Packing Slip
A warehouse-ready packing list for order fulfillment:
- Checkboxes next to each item for staff to tick off
- Product name, SKU, and quantity (no prices โ for privacy)
- Shipping address prominently displayed
- Delivery instructions and order notes
๐ท๏ธ Delivery Label
A large, clear shipping label:
- Customer name and full shipping address in large font
- Order number and date for reference
- Barcode placeholder area
- COD (Cash on Delivery) badge โ automatically shown for cash payment orders
- "FROM" section with your shop address
How to Print These Documents
Open any order in WooCommerce. In the print meta box in the right sidebar, you'll see buttons for each document type. Click the one you need โ it opens in a new tab ready to print.
7. Custom Checkout Fields
Auto-detect fields from any checkout editor plugin
๐ How Custom Fields Work
Automatic detection with individual visibility controls
The plugin automatically scans each order's metadata and detects custom fields added by checkout editor plugins. These fields appear on your printed documents without any manual configuration.
Compatible Plugins
- WooCommerce Checkout Field Editor โ official WooCommerce extension
- Checkout Field Editor by ThemeHigh โ popular free/pro plugin
- Flexible Checkout Fields by WP Desk โ another popular option
- Any plugin that saves to order meta โ the auto-detection works with any plugin that stores data as WooCommerce order meta
Individual Show/Hide Control
In the Template Editor, each detected custom field gets its own toggle. You can show or hide individual fields per paper size. For example, show "Delivery Instructions" on POS receipts but hide "Company Registration Number" โ which is only needed on A4 invoices.
Excluded Internal Fields
The plugin intelligently filters out WooCommerce internal meta so only meaningful custom fields appear. Fields with the following prefixes are automatically hidden:
Field Label Formatting
Meta key names are automatically converted into human-readable labels:
8. Sound Notifications
Navigate to Super Print Order โ Settings โ Notifications
๐ Setting Up Order Alerts
Never miss a new order with audio notifications
Enable Sound Notifications
Check the "Enable Sound Notifications" box. When enabled, the plugin polls for new orders in the background and plays a sound alert when a new order arrives.
Sound Type
Choose from the built-in notification sounds:
- ๐ Ding โ Classic short notification beep
- ๐ต Chime โ Melodic, pleasant alert tone
- ๐ Bell โ Traditional bell ring sound
- โ ๏ธ Alert โ Attention-grabbing alert (louder, for noisy kitchens)
- ๐ Custom โ Upload your own MP3 file via WordPress Media Library
Volume
Slider from 0% to 100%. Set this based on your environment's noise level. For busy kitchens, use 80โ100%. For quiet offices, 30โ50% is usually enough.
Check Interval
How often the plugin checks for new orders, in seconds. Accepts values from 10 to 300 seconds. Shorter intervals mean faster alerts but slightly more server load.
9. Print History & Logging
Navigate to Super Print Order โ Print History
๐ Using Print History
Track every print job across your team
Every time an order is printed โ by a person or automatically โ it's logged in the Print History. This gives you a complete audit trail.
What Gets Logged
- Timestamp โ exact date and time of the print
- Order Number โ which order was printed (clickable link to the order)
- Template Type โ which template was used (POS, A4, Invoice, Packing Slip, etc.)
- Print Type โ MANUAL (someone clicked print) or AUTOMATIC (cloud printer)
- User โ which WordPress user triggered the print
Search & Filter
Use the search bar to find prints by order number, date range, or user. Results can be filtered by template type and print type.
Quick Actions
- View Order โ jump directly to the order in WooCommerce
- Reprint โ print the same order again with the same template
Statistics
At the top of the Print History page, summary statistics show: total prints today, this week, and this month. Useful for tracking order volume trends.
10. Automatic Printing (Star CloudPRNT)
Navigate to Super Print Order โ Settings โ Automatic Printing
โ๏ธ What Automatic Printing Does
New orders print by themselves โ no computer, no clicking
When automatic printing is switched on, every new order is printed on your thermal printer within seconds of the customer placing it. Nobody has to be logged in, no browser tab needs to be open, and no computer needs to be connected to the printer. The printer only needs power and an internet connection.
Supported Printers
Any Star Micronics printer with CloudPRNT support:
- TSP100IV / TSP143IV
- TSP654II CloudPRNT
- mC-Print2 / mC-Print3
- SP700 with an HI01X interface card
Why There Are Two Methods
A Star printer never waits to be contacted. Instead, it asks a question every few seconds: "is there anything to print?" Somebody has to answer that question. That's the only difference between the two methods below โ who does the answering.
Direct
The printer connects to your website
- โ Free โ no account, no monthly fee
- โ No API key to create or lose
- โ Only one URL to copy
- โ Live printer status shown in Settings
- โ Your website must be reachable from the internet
Star Cloud Service
Your site sends receipts to Star, Star feeds the printer
- โ Works if your website is private or firewalled
- โ Star holds jobs while the printer is offline
- โ Dashboard for many shops or printers
- โ Needs a Star account and an API key
- โ May cost money after the free trial
๐ข Method A โ Direct Setup
The recommended path. About 10 minutes, no technical knowledge needed.
Step 1 โ Switch the method on
- Go to Super Print Order โ Settings
- Under Printing method, choose Direct โ printer connects to this website
- Set Paper width: 80 mm for normal receipt rolls, 58 mm for narrow ones
- Click Save Changes
Step 2 โ Copy your Server URL into the printer
The Settings page shows your Server URL with a Copy button. It looks like this:
https://yoursite.com/wp-json/sspo/v1/cloudprnt- Switch the printer off. Hold down the FEED button, switch it back on, and keep holding for about 5 seconds. The printer prints a page showing its IP address, such as 192.168.1.50
- Type that IP address into a browser on the same network. The printer's own settings page opens
- Find the CloudPRNT section and switch it ON
- Paste your Server URL into the box named Server URL
- Set Polling interval to 5 seconds. Leave username and password empty
- Click Save. The printer restarts on its own โ wait about 30 seconds
Step 3 โ Confirm it worked
Reload the Settings page and look at the Printers connected to this website table. Your printer should be listed and marked Online, showing its MAC address, when it last checked in, and how many jobs it has printed. Press Send Test Print to confirm.
If the printer doesn't appear
First check the endpoint is alive. Open https://yoursite.com/wp-json/ in a browser and search the page for sspo/v1. If you find it โ it may appear as sspo\/v1, which is normal JSON formatting โ the endpoint is working and the problem is at the printer end. If you don't find it, a security plugin is probably blocking the WordPress REST API.
Settings also shows an alternative URL form that often gets through when the first is blocked:
https://yoursite.com/?rest_route=/sspo/v1/cloudprntExtra options
- Print shop logo โ off by default. Only enable it if your printer has recent firmware; older models print a blank space instead of the image.
- Clear queue โ discards receipts waiting to print. Useful after a paper jam, or if a backlog built up while the printer was offline.
๐ต Method B โ Star Cloud Service Setup
Only needed if Direct doesn't work for your setup
Step 1 โ Create your Star account
- Sign up at starprinter.online
- Create a Device Group with a short name, no spaces โ for example myshop
Step 2 โ Point the printer at Star
- Copy the CloudPRNT URL shown for your Device Group
- Open the printer's settings page (same FEED button trick as Method A)
- Paste Star's URL into Server URL, set polling to 5 seconds, and Save
- Back in the Star dashboard, your printer appears. Copy its Application Access ID โ a short code like e9042f5f
Step 3 โ Create your API Key
- In the Star dashboard go to API Keys โ Create key
- Give it the PrintToDevice permission
- Copy the key โ it looks like 6800ffd6-2367-4c8d-b067-d6a28151276a
Step 4 โ Build your API URL
Combine your group name and Application Access ID like this:
https://api.starprinter.online/v1/a/GROUP-NAME/d/PRINTER-ID/qPaste it into the API URL box, paste the key into API Key, choose Star Cloud service as the method, and Save. Then press Send Test Print.
Keyless alternative
Star also accepts a URL that needs no key at all:
https://api.starprinter.online/application/job/GROUP-NAME-PRINTER-IDLeave the API Key box empty when using this form. It is simpler but less secure โ anyone who learns the URL can print to your printer.
๐งพ What the Automatic Receipt Contains
Built specifically for thermal receipt printers
- Shop name in large bold text, plus address, phone and any extra business info
- Order number, printed large so kitchen staff can read it at a glance
- Date, payment method, customer name and phone
- Delivery or billing address
- All items with quantities and prices, including variations and add-ons
- Full totals, with the grand total in double height
- Customer note, if one was left
- Automatic paper cut at the end
โฑ๏ธ When Orders Print
Three triggers, one receipt
To make sure no payment gateway is missed, printing is triggered when the order is created, when the customer reaches the thank-you page, and when the order status becomes Processing. Whichever happens first wins.
Each order is protected by two independent duplicate checks, so it prints once and only once no matter how many triggers fire.
๐ง Troubleshooting
What each problem means and how to fix it
| What you see | What it means | How to fix it |
|---|---|---|
| Printer never appears in the connected list | The printer can't reach your website | Check the Server URL is exact with no trailing space, polling is 5 seconds, and your site is reachable from outside. Try the alternative URL form. |
| Printer prints tags like [align: centre] | Old printer firmware | Update the firmware from the Star website. |
| Slow to start printing | Polling too slow, or page caching | Set polling to 5 seconds and exclude the Server URL from any caching plugin or CDN. |
| HTTP 401 or 403 | The API key was refused | Re-copy the key. Confirm it has the PrintToDevice permission and no extra spaces. |
| HTTP 404 | The printer could not be found | Your group name or Application Access ID is wrong. Rebuild the URL. |
| HTTP 400 | The URL is incomplete | Check it ends with /q and nothing is missing. |
| Timeout or connection error | Your website couldn't reach Star | Ask your host to allow outgoing HTTPS to api.starprinter.online. |
| Says "Sent" but nothing prints | The job reached the queue but not the paper | Check the printer is on, has paper, and the lid is closed. |
| Receipt too wide or cut off | Paper width mismatch | Set the correct width (58mm or 80mm) in Settings and in the printer's own configuration. |
| Same order prints repeatedly | Another print plugin is also running | Deactivate the other plugin, then press Clear queue. |
11. Built-in Help & Setup Guide
Navigate to Super Print Order โ Help & Setup
๐ Setup Help Inside WordPress
No separate document to find, no printer manual to decode
The plugin includes a complete setup guide as its own admin page, written in plain language for people with no technical background. It is reachable from four places, so it's always one click away:
- The Help & Setup item in the Super Print Order menu
- A button above the printer settings on the Settings page
- A Help & Setup link on the Plugins list, next to Deactivate
- The standard Help tab at the top-right of every plugin screen
Live Status Banner
The top of the page reads your actual configuration and tells you exactly where you stand โ whether printing is switched off, whether the printer has ever connected, and whether it's responding right now.
Side-by-Side Method Comparison
The two printing methods are laid out with their advantages and drawbacks, so you can choose before starting rather than discovering the trade-offs halfway through.
API URL Builder
For the Star Cloud method, instead of asking you to assemble a long URL by hand, the page gives you two boxes โ group name and printer ID โ and builds the finished URL as you type, with a copy button. A toggle switches between the keyed and keyless URL formats.
Test Print Button
Available directly on the help page, so you can finish the setup and confirm it works without navigating back and forth.
Troubleshooting Table & FAQ
Every error message the plugin can produce is listed with its meaning and its fix, followed by answers to the questions that come up most often โ which method to choose, whether a computer must stay on, how to use more than one printer, and where to see what has been printed.
12. Super Delivery & Pickup Integration
Seamless integration with the SDP plugin
๐ How SDP Data Appears on Receipts
Automatic โ no configuration needed
If you use the Super Delivery & Pickup plugin, all order details are automatically displayed on printed receipts via the custom fields system.
Fields That Appear
- Order Type โ "Delivery" or "Pickup"
- Date โ the selected delivery/pickup date
- Time Slot โ the selected time window (e.g., "12:00 - 12:15")
- Delivery Zone โ zone name with zip codes (e.g., "Paris (75019, 75020)")
- Pickup Location โ location name (e.g., "Main Store - Rue de Rivoli")
Hidden Internal Fields
These SDP meta keys are automatically excluded from printouts (they're internal IDs):
- _sdp_delivery_zone_id โ numeric zone ID (the display name is shown instead)
- _sdp_pickup_location_id โ numeric location ID (the name is shown instead)
- _sdp_tip_amount โ tip amount (already visible as a fee line in order totals)
SDP Order Notes
SDP also adds a formatted order note with all details. If "Order Notes" is enabled in the Template Editor, the SDP summary appears as well:
13. Translation / Localization
Make the plugin speak your language
๐ Translating the Plugin
Compatible with Loco Translate, WPML, Polylang
Using Loco Translate (Recommended)
- Install and activate the Loco Translate plugin
- Go to Loco Translate โ Plugins โ Super Smart Print Order
- Click New language and select your language
- Translate each string and click Save
French Translation Included
A complete French translation (.po/.mo files) is included in the languages/ folder. Labels like "Order Type", "Time Slot", "Invoice", "Packing Slip" are all translated to French.
What Gets Translated
All user-facing and admin-facing strings: settings labels, template section titles, print history columns, notification messages, document headers ("Invoice", "Packing Slip", "Delivery Label"), button labels, field names on printed documents, and the entire Help & Setup guide.
